HALLOWEEN This Saturday at 3:00 PM will begin the line up for the annual Lilly Halloween Parade that will commence at 3:30 PM starting at the ambulance building. The parade will go down Main Street across Washington Street and up Railroad Street returning to the ambulance building. All costumed individuals and floats are welcome.

After the parade there will be Trick or Treating in the Borough from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Please put your porch light on if you are offering treats to the children. At 7:00 PM there will be a bon fire and story telling at the firemen’s pavilion in the parkyard. Free marshmallows will be available for roasting and the firemen will sell other snacks.

Then when coming up Main Street check out the graveyard at Ron Muldoon’s. On Piper Street there is a nice display at Inmans and the Durkays have a yard full of skeletons.

SYMPATHY My deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of John Hooder who recently passed away. John was well known in the community. After retiring from the mills he drove school bus for Wilkinsons. John was a WW2 Navy veteran and was in Japan shortly after the A-bombs were dropped.

PENN CAMBRIA Penn Cambria varsity football team will be playing at Westmont this Saturday. They held their own against Richland Friday night at home ending the first half 12-12. The second half was their downfall. Max Behe and Nathan Przybys got in on a lot of the games action and both made many tackles during this Seniors night game. The game ended 30-12 in favor of the undefeated Richland Rams. The Panthers are now 4-4 for the season.

MINERS On the 1920 census there were 436 men living in Lilly Borough listed as coal miners or in the coal business. This did not include the Washington Township miners where another 270 miners were listed.

OLDTIMER You are an old timer if you remember trick or treating for a week or more and getting mostly apples and pears as treats. Most costumes were old clothes and the masks were white or black and of the Lone Ranger style.
