POLISH SAINT

Those of us with a Polish family background are jubilant in celebration this week on the canonization of Pope John Paul ll as a Saint in the Catholic Church. My great-grandmother, Michalina Nadolsky, was born in Crawkow, Poland, the same home town as Pope John Paul ll.

STREET CLEANING

On May 6 the contracted street sweeping machines will be in town for the day sweeping all the streets.

Residents are ask to keep all cars off the street and also before the 6th sweep your sidewalks and any yard shale or dirt into the street so it can be swept up that day. Help make Lilly look better.

MEMORIAL DAY FLOWERS

The Lilly-Washington Historical Society will place flower baskets on graves at the Lilly cemeteries again this year. Baskets are $18 and can be ordered at Galls Insurance Agency.

MINER PLAQUES

The miner plaques that are currently being repaired and the new ones that are ordered will be in place for Memorial Day.

FLOWERS

Anyone that has Easter flowers  with bulbs, such as tulips, hyacinths and lilies that are being discarded are ask to donate the bulbs to the Historical Society for planting. They can be dropped off at Galls Insurance or call 886-2961 for pickup.

DISNEY WORLD

Daughter Natalie and her husband Jim Reed and her mother, Helen Barlick, along with granddaughter Allison and her brother and sister Derek and Laura returned home Sunday, April 27, after a week at Disney World in Florida where they visited Cocoa Beach and Universal Studios.

LITTER

I noticed Pat Shedlock down town picking up litter along the streets. He deserves being commended for his efforts, but isn’t it a shame that so many others carelessly throw garbage around. If you have it in your car keep it there until you either get home or to a gas station or store that has a litter receptacle. The police should fine anyone caught littering.
