A reminder: High School seniors residing in Lilly Borough and Washington Township are reminded that May 15 is the deadline to submit an essay for the Lilly American Legion Post 628 Scholarship competition. Three scholarships will be awarded: one for $2500, one for $1500 and one for $1000. The topic is “What effect did WWll veterans have on the Lilly Community”The essay is to be 300 words or less. Call me at 886-4694 if you need additional information.

Anyone wishing to purchase a plaque on the Miners Monument for inclusion by Memorial Day can fill out a form at Galls Insurance Agency until May 6. Plaques are $50 and can include the miners name, mines worked in and the years employed there.

A decision has been made to move the town wide yard sale here in Lilly back to the first Saturday in June, which will be June 6, starting at 9:00. A map will again be available for visitors to help find the sales. Cost to be on the map will be $5 and can be signed up for at Galls Insurance Agency. The Historical Society will oversee the event.

A reminder that the Lilly-Washington Historical Society is again placing live floral baskets on graves at the Lilly cemeteries. The cost is $18 and can be ordered at Galls Insurance. They will be placed on the graves the Saturday before Memorial Day by society volunteers.

Today, April 30 finds Francis Albarano, Ruth Mulhearn and Ed Stombaugh celebrating their birthdays. On May 1 Charles Devett, Margaret Lykens and Margie Panek get to party as will Jeremy Eckenrode, Meagan Leahey, Eric Fishel and Ganno Matcho on the 2nd and Robert Lee on the 3rd. Roxanne Seymore observes her birthday on the 4th while Korena Behe and Carrie Martynuska enjoy cake and ice cream on the 5th as will Cindy Brickley on the 6th. Happy Birthday to All!.

George and Margaret Lukacs celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on May 1. Daniel and Phyllis Siedlarczyk also celebrate on the 1st. Angela and Jay Stiffler celebrate on the 2nd and Mike and Betty Phillips on the 4th. David and Theresa Dunmyer observe their anniversary on the
6th. Happy Anniversary to each couple.
