Lilly Lines by Jack Barlick 886-4694

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

Piper Street becomes busy and busier with the many activities at the ball fields, the construction of the UMWA drinking fountain, the construction of the pavilion by the township and the steady truck traffic hauling away mine refuse. Saturday, the 13th was also a busy day as Mark Mardulas graduation party was at the field pavilion, Summervilles had a large party in their yard and my grand-daughter Tasjas wedding adorned my back yard.
God was with us as heavy rains both Friday and Saturday held off until more convenient hours.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Alice in Wonderland was the theme picked for Tasja and Jeremy Kimballs wedding

celebration. The back lots were decorated with many items from the fairytale blending in with the natural surroundings. An infant wild rabbit paid a visit and lingered around during the festivities. Tasjas grand ma Helen did many floral decorations for the event while her Uncle Steve did various art works. Approximately75 people stopped by during the wedding. Many of Tasja and Jeremies friends came up from Mechanicsburg. Desiree Bukoski was the maid of honor and Cora and Nola Klien were the flower maid and ring bearers. I had the honor, as Mayor, to officiate the ceremony. Russ Conley served as DJ.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY
Sunday afternoon started with sunshine but it wasn’t long that a good heavy rain fall moved in causing a delay to the Ebensburg- Lilly ball game at the War Memorial field. It also kept the gamblers under the pavilion at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. A delicious chicken dinner was served there.

5K RUN
This Saturday, June 20, is the date for the First Annual Lilly Fire Company 5 K Run. Registration begins at the firemen’s pavilion at 8:30 and the race gets under way at 10; 00AM Fruit and snacks will be served. Call Pat Tremel for details at 937-4533

LOOKING AHEAD
St. Lukes Lutheran Church will hold their annual yard sale on Saturday, June 27 from 7:30 AM until 2:00 PM. Donations for the sale and baked goods are welcome. Call Reverand Palko at 886-2222 for further details.

SYMPATHY
Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Ruth Patterson who recently passed away. She and Hubba were good friends for many years and I can readily recall Lisa and Bill as small children. May she R.I.P.Further sympathy is extended to the family and friends of John Bender who also recently passed away. John was a Vietnam War veteran and was well known in town as he portrayed Santa Claus at the Tree Lighting Ceremony and at the Lilly Fire Hall for years.

Another recent loss was RoseMary Orlowsky of Ebensburg. She was born RoseMary Salony here in Lilly and was a daughter of Bill and Betty Salony.

GRASS AND WEEDS
I have taken notice to several properties in the borough that need grass and weed and trash removal about their properties. Some of the buildings are vacant and are becoming eyesores and a few others have rusty doors on them. These scofflaws represent less than 5% of borough properties. There are also several junk cars around town that should be removed and a growing junk yard on Piper Street that needs further action.

LEGION BASEBALL
The Lilly American Legion Baseball team defeated the Ebensburg team in a double header held at the Lilly War Memorial Field on Sunday June, 14. Rained out for a while the teams finally got to play. Lilly won by 13-5 and 5-1. Good Job!

OLD TIMER
A lot of old-timers must watch and feed the hummingbirds. A guy from Gallitzin, at Tasjas wedding, said “tell Shirley Patterson a guy from Gallitzin said she is full of crap when it comes to hummingbirds’ O well!
