Just a friendly reminder that the annual Lilly-Washington War Memorial banquet and recognition ceremony will be held at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church Hall at 5:30 PM on Saturday, May 23rd. At least 10 World War ll veterans are expected to attend. It is 70 years since the end of WW11.

A plaque, bush and angel, by the Mainline Garden Club honoring the memory of the groups founder, Elaine Klayko, will be unveiled.

The main Memorial Day program will be the dedication of a plaque remembering the 115 men from the greater Lilly area who died while serving our country from the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848 until present. Students, Allison Barlick and Rachel Shoff will read a roll call of the names and the local Girl Scouts will place flowers at the Main monument and the Civil War Monument. It is 70 years since the end of WW11 and 150 years since the end of the Civil War.

The plaque with the 115 names was a co-operative arrangement between The Lilly American Legion Post 628, Sankertown VFW Post 7377, Lilly-Washington Historical Society and the Lilly-Washington War Memorial Association.

A special feature will be the presence of a bagpiper who will play several melodies including “Amazing Grace” and “Danny Boy”. If you love bagpipe music don’t miss this event.

I am especially proud of my granddaughter, Kiera Nadosky, who spent last Saturday afternoon with her Aunt Cindy Rabish placing American flags on veterans graves in the Cresson area along with the Cresson legionaires for Memorial Day.
