It is almost three months until Memorial Day. I am working on the program already as this is the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII and the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. A special program is being planned for 11:00 AM.

All WWII veterans and a guest are invited to the War Memorial Banquet the Saturday before the holiday. Call Bob Monahan or Joe Gides for tickets. A letter will be mailed later.

SAINT PATRICK DAY
Tuesday, March 17 will be Saint Patrick Day throughout the area. This is one of the favorite holidays of the year for those with Irish heritage, both real and imagined. The original founders of the area, Joseph and Catherine Moyer brought some Irish heritage here as Catherine was Scot-Irish with the last name Cassidy. Drink some green beer in their honor. Don’t forget to wear some green also.

SYMPATHY
Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Paula Gides who recently passed away here in Lilly. Her husband, John, is well known in the community. Sympathy also is extended to the family and friends of Joseph Kondis who recently died. Joe was a Lilly High School graduate and a US Army veteran. He was an ardent supporter of the Historical Society and War Memorial.

SPRINGTIME
Although it is only starting to warm up outside it is ever so much better than all the freezing weather we had this winter. I finally can get outside more. It will soon be time for the many walkers to start using the walking trail again. Time also to think about the robins and hummingbirds. The last cold spell the winter birds cleaned out my three feeders as fast as they could be filled. At least they looked well fed. This upcoming week looks great with temperatures in the 40’s.

You are an old timer if you remember when all the girls and women were required to wear either a hat or a babushka to church.
