The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of the Alleghenies parish will be holding an Easter Candy sale on April 12th and 13th in Our Lady of the Alleghenies church hall both before and after Masses each day. Order forms are available at the church or call Shirley Patterson at 886-7213 to place an order. Why further enrich the Walton’s when you can help your local Knights.

There was a nice turnout of coaches and players from the Penn Cambria baseball team and the local pony league team, little league, girls’ softball and Legion team along with some parents and LWWM board members, for the Saturday morning spring cleanup of the War Memorial field.

There has been some public criticism of the War Memorial Board for placing a fee on the City Leagues use of the field. The team did not participate in the field clean up. It must be noted that the current board does what it can to keep the field operational and help is always welcome.

A special meeting of the Lilly-Washington War Memorial board will be held on Sunday, March 30 at 7:00 P.M. at the Lilly Borough building to discuss a possible merger of the Lilly Raiders football team with Cresson and the City League issue. Parents and the public along with the City League are welcome to attend.

The Sankertown VFW is the home post for our area. It is a very active, community minded post and welcomes eligible veterans to their ranks. I attended a recent meeting and found it very interesting. All Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi and Afghanistan veterans should consider joining. The VFW will meet the third Wednesday of April at 7:00 PM.

The VFW will be holding a Ham bingo on Sunday, April 6th starting at 1:00 P.M. It is open to the public and will be held at the Post home.

For your information: Disabled American veterans can get a free lifetime pass allowing free entry to any National Park. For $10 any veteran is eligible for a life time pass

On March 28th it will be 70 years since Pvt. John F. Muldoon was killed on the Anzio beachhead in Italy during WW2. He was a 1942 graduate of the Lilly High School and had joined the army in 1943. John was the son of Francis and Susan Muldoon and had two sisters: Rosalia who married Ray Serre and Herlene who married Ray Lenz
