SOUTHERN VACATION

Frances Hershel along with her niece, Sandra (Costlow) Smith and Marsha Costlow with her daughter Victoria and son Preston and little Alexis Paul recently returned to Lilly after a vacation in North Carolina. They stayed in Jacksonville which is near the Marine base of Camp LaJuene. Frances had spent two tours of duty there. Besides visiting the base and its beach they did some sightseeing along the Carolina coast. The group visited both the beach and aquarium at Wilmington. A memorial vacation, especially for the children.

WILD TROUT STREAM

An informed source told me that the Pennsylvania Fish Commission has recently designated the Bear Rock Run above the pipes at Lilly Coal on up into the mountain as a Class A Wild Trout stream after conducting a survey of the aquatic life there. The PH is neutral at about 7.0 allowing good water for the fish. This is great news for sports loving residents; however Christy Run, running down from 3A, has a very poor PH, in the 4.0 range, causing damage where it runs. A sportsman group should look into salvaging this stream for the future. With the Class A designation the Bear Rock stream is off limits for logging and drilling vehicles from October through November each year as the wild brook trout spawn then.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Joseph Kaputska Sr. who passed away in Johnstown. A Lilly native, he was a WWll veteran and a strong supporter of the Lilly Washington Historical Society. Sympathy is also extended to the family and friends of another Lilly native, Patricia (Slebodnick) Bollman who also passed away.

WEEDS

If any one enjoys pulling weeds contact Jim Salony at 886-7282. He needs some help with the weeding at the Butterfly Garden at the Miners Memorial. The almost steady rain has hastened the growth of all vegetation, including the weeds.

WEDDING

Wondering why Ron and Judy Muldoon have a large tent in their Main Street yard this week, wonder no more.

On July 6th at 5:00 PM their son Neil will renew his vows with his wife, Corinne Block, from Boise, Idaho in a ceremony to be preformed by his uncle, Rev. Robert Monahan, under the tent. Over 120 guests are expected from across the USA for the wedding including Uncle Paul Muldoon from Alabama, Aunts Doreen Bowser from Carlisle, PA.,

Mickie from Chicago, Priscilla from Mechanicsburg, Maureen from Jessup, Maryland and Joann from Pittsburgh. Neil’s paternal Uncle John and Aunt Patty live in town and will be there also along with his maternal aunt Mary Jane Monahan. His sister Erin Blaschke will be here from San Francisco and her twin Edana will be here from Pittsburgh and brother Ryan will venture here from Hardy, Virginia. His cousin Martin Bowser will travel here from Hazlet, Texas (and also escape the heat wave there).  Corinne’s mom, Susan Block will travel from Boise for the occasion as will her Aunt Betsy from Minnesota. Best Wishes to the young couple who reside in North Carolina. The get-together will be an impromptu family reunion as many cousins, grandchildren, nephew and nieces, friends and spouses will also be present.

CARNIVAL

Between running through the daily rain drops the Lilly Fire Company was able to have a successful carnival week. The rain held off Friday for most of the parade that included many area trucks including more distant Manns Choice, Tyrone and Everett. I totaled out at five hot sausages during the week and a like amount of french fries. It was enjoyable watching grandkids Kiera and Kiana Nadolsky, Derick and Laura Reed, Nola and Cora Klein and Nathan, Allison and Desiree on different nights of the week. Many grandparents were noticed bonding with their grandkids at the games or at the rides or food stand. A nice time for all!

CITY LEAGUE

The Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion team has 13 wins and 1 loss so far for the 2013 season. Bets are they will be the champs again this year for 10 times out of the last 11 years
