FIREMEN’S WEEK The annual Lilly Firemen’s carnival is now history. There were good turnouts in the hot summer evenings which made the week a success. I was told the parade on Friday was nice and a large crowd was present Saturday when Charlene’s School of Dance preformed on the midway. Many youngsters tried the National Guard Wall Climb.
HUNTER SAFETY Jim Davis was recently recognized by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for his service as a hunter safety instructor. He is currently teaching a class at Wilmore. This is his 44th year of teaching. Incidentally, Jim was the first to attempt climbing the National Guard Wall Climb on Tuesday, June 26th.
SYMPATHY Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Charles Clinemyer who recently passed away in Alabama. He was a graduate of the Lilly High School and made a career in the United States Air Force.
Sympathy also is extended to the family and friends of Heather Mallory of Loretto. Heather was only 37 and had many friends in Cresson and Lilly. She was severely injured several years ago but dealt with her problems amazingly. She was always cheerful in public.

The 2012 Triple AAABA playoffs will start in Lilly on August 7th. Also there will be a Cambria County Youth Fair on August 1. Also start getting prepared for the town wide yard sale on August 5th. Contact Nadine Rodgers to get listed on the map.
PROGRESS I observed several area men working on the LABA ball field project on Monday afternoon. Despite the heat they were leveling off the top soil and gathering rocks. I didn’t get names but they deserved a lot of credit. Also the rock dump cleanup of the Piper dump is about finished. I am anxiously waiting for it to be seeded and turning into a grassy knoll.
WEDDING My son, John III and Molly Klein were wed on Saturday June 30th in a beautiful ceremony at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in the center of Annapolis, MD. I was both happy proud that all of my children and their children made the trip and attended the service. Natalie and Cindy were readers in the program and Steve was best man. John’s two daughters, Tasja and Desiree were in the wedding party while Molly’s daughters Nola and Kora were flower girls. Saint Mary’s Church is absolutely beautiful. Consecrated in 1860 it stands on grounds originally belonging to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the only Catholic signer to the Declaration of Independence. A beautiful flower garden surrounds the church which is near the Spa River. There are at least 10 large stained glass windows that were stunning to see with the afternoon sun lighting them up. The main altar was very impressive with statues of several saints on it. One side altar had the Good Shepherd pictured and the other had a painting of the Lady of Perpetual Help. After the service the family, wedding party and friends went to the Elks Lodge in Annapolis for the reception. Friday night a severe storm had passed through the area and with temperatures around 103 degrees the Elks Air Conditioning was out due to power failure. Lighting was provided by a generator, Needless to say, those nice tuxedos were soon abandoned Friday evening all had gathered at Molly’s parents for an evening of conversation, getting to know each other and a fine food setup. The day after the wedding, July 1 we all gathered for the breakfast brunch at Buddy’s on Main Street in Annapolis. 41 adults and children from John and Molly’s families were present. Fabulous brunch, seafood included. We all then headed back to Pennsylvania except Johns mom ,Helen, who stayed to watch kids as John and Molly went on their honeymoon. They had planned to tour the south but due to the excessive heat wave headed to New England instead.
